PLURALITY (Short)
In the near future, instant DNA identification has created
an information grid that makes crime extremely difficult and anonymity
impossible. But suddenly the same ID’s started to appear in different
locations.
A superb short film, that’s wonderfully shot, edited and
written, that provides insight into the growing eye of Big Brother. The film is
set in a near-futuristic New York, that has become a totalitarian state that
has gained a total control through surveillance, watching every move one would
make.
“The Grid takes all those things unique to you, your social
security number, your passport, your debit and credit accounts and links them
to one thing…your DNA. With just a touch, the Grid collects a tiny sample of
your genetic material, ID-ing you instantly. Then a purchase can be deducted
directly from your personal accounts, or you can unlock and start your car and
it all works within a margin error of 0.001% ….the ultimate social network!”
The themes and ideas that we see in Plurality is not all
that indigenous to us, especially the technology that has been introduced in
the film. That way Plurality seems to be less sci-fi and more of a plausibility
of what is waiting for us in future. In that way, it serves as a warning to us
of what might occur with governments of the world trying to find more and more
ways on keeping an eye on the people it has to serve.
Directed by first time director, Dennis Liu, Plurality has
been a project that he as well as his exceptionally talented team has been
working on for the past 2 years, with a very small budget. Although it must be
said that all that hard work certainly paid off, as the stunning FX, wonderful
Narration, and overall excellent quality goes to show just how talented this
group of people really is.
On YouTube the film has already amassed over 240 000 views
in just over three weeks. Hopefully Liu will get the exposure he needs as well
as gain the faith from some studio exec’s to invest in Liu and turn this
wonderful short, into a glorious Full Length Feature.
